Purpose

Shepherds Institute exists to equip men in the church to be servant leaders with the necessary biblical, theological, and practical skills to teach and lead with excellence in the church and at home. This focus on biblical thinking, philosophy of ministry, and personal sanctification prepares men to better love Christ and His church. This ministry also serves as a formative step on the path toward elder qualification.

Requirements

Shepherds Institute students must be eager to devote serious effort so that they may deepen in their knowledge and skill in handling Scripture. Students must commit time for classes and assignments, as well as finances for required resources. Time required outside of class is up to (but not over) 10 hours a week, and resources are not intended to exceed more than $100 per semester.

Format

Shepherds Institute is a two-year, four-semester (fall and spring) program. Students are intended to complete all four semesters.

Classes meet on Thursday nights at Grace Community Church for 3 hours. The emphasis on shepherd leadership drives students to come to class prepared for deep personal fellowship and accountability, personal presentations and papers, and lectures with continual interaction and an ongoing focus on practical application. Classes are led by shepherd leaders who love to train men with excellence, patience, and shared experience.
